There are the four basic skills to learn a language.

The skills can be learned in the same sequence with the use of word LSRW. The skills are developed in the same order.

1. Listening

It is the first and foremost skill that we use to learn our native language. It is the receptive skill. It means by listening, you are receiving something. It is also the semantic aspect of a language learning that it involves the use of sound which you listen. The children can listen stories, extra curriculum topics to enhance their learning.

2. Speaking

It is obviously the second language skill which involves the production of sound, so it is also known as the productive or active skill. We communicate in our daily lives through speaking. Children must be given freedom to speak whatever they want to get more outcome from them. Speaking also helps to develop our pronunciation.

3. Reading

It is the third language skill and is a receptive skill. With reading, we receive something. Children find the meaning of new words while reading. They also try to paraphrase the text which helps in enhancing their imagination and learning as well. Intensive reading is best when you have to focus on the details i.e it is actually a scanning.

4. Writing

Writing is the last and active skill you require to learn English. It requires the use of hand and brain to produce the writing symbols. It is the hardest skill asa it is the most complicated one. You make the use of Note Taking and Note Making to improve writing skills.
