Coconut water is a natural gift from GOD almighty. Coconut water is good for re-hydration after you do exercise or during illness. Coconut water has electrolytes, such as potassium, sodium and manganese.
It is believed that following are the benefits:
- Cools down your body.
- Skin started clearing up.
- Better digestion.
- Removed toxins from the body.
- Re-Hydration
1 cup of coconut water contains:
- Calories: 49
- Carbohydrates: 12 gm
- Sugar: 11 gm
- Calcium: 60 gm
- Potassium: 559 mg
- Sodium: 34 mg
If you drink too much coconut water, it may cause electrolytes imbalance in the body. The level of potassium may increase which can cause kidney trouble and irregular heartbeat.
Hyperkalemia is a situation when potassium level increases than normal. Potassium is critical to the function of nerve and muscle cells. For a normal human, blood potassium level is normally 3.6 to 5.2 milli moles per liter. High potassium content can also drastically lower BP
- Hyperkalemia can happen if your kidneys do not work properly. Potassium should be properly filtered through the kidneys and lost through the urine., but if kidney does not remove enough potassium from your body then it causes hyperkalemia.
- Eating/Drinking items having high potassium can also cause hyperkalemia. Coconut water, kharbooja, bobby melon, orange juice & bananas are high in potassium.
- Drugs which prevent the kidneys from losing potassium. Such drugs can cause your potassium levels to rise.
So be careful while drinking coconut water, we should not drink 2 cup of coconut water in a day.
