Litmus paper is basic item in chemistry laboratory, but what is litmus paper? Litmus paper is chemically treated strip of paper ,which is treated with dye named Litmus. Primary raw materials which are used to make litmus paper are wood cellulose, lichens and adjunct compounds. It is generally used by technicians in lab to indicate the nature of liquid ,whether it is acid, base or neutral liquid, in which it is dipped.
In acidic solutions, it gives red color. On dipping it in neutral solution or water, it gives purple color. When we dip it in alkaline or basic medium ,it turns its color to blue.
In this way litmus paper changes its color when we dip it in different solutions.
