I have seen the camels having humps. What are functions of hump at the back of Camel ?
Camels hump are very important for the survival especially in the places like deserts. They are known by the nickname "Ship of desert". You may know that camels have one or two humps at their back.
Functions of Hump at the back ?
1. The hump of camel actually stores the fat and it does not hold the water. They take it as a source of nourishment when the food is scarce. As we know, camels reside in the deserts where there are not enough sources to get the food. When they are unable to get food for a long period of time, then its body is able to metabolize the fat in the humps for nutrition.
2. Its important to adjust the temperature according to the environment in the desserts, where the temperature can be irregular, so its hump helps to regulate the temperature.
3. Also, with the help of hump they overcome the sweat and high heat.
