What is NIT, IIIT, SFTI, GFTI, IIEST, IIT ?
- NIT: The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are the technical institutes owned by central government under the of Ministry of Education, Government of India. They are governed by the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research Act, 2007. There are 31 NITs in India.
- IIT: The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are public technical institutes owned by Ministry of Education, Government of India. They are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961. There are 23 IITs.
- SFTI: Self Financing Technical Institutes SFTI are those who do not get funding support from govt.
- GFTI: Government Financing Technical Institutes
- CFTI: Central Financing Technical Institutes are more or less same as GFTIs.
- IIIT: IIIT is Indian Institutes of Information Technology. Ther are 25 in numbers. They are information technology based engineering research institutions in India. Five are managed by the Ministry of Education & remaining 20 are set up on the public private partnership (PPP) model, funded by the central government, state governments and industry partners.
- IIEST: Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology is in Shibpur, Howarh, West Bengal. It works under MHRD by the Government of India. It is controlled by the Council of National Institutes of Technology.
So when you take exam for JEE, you get a rank. After getting the rank in JEE, students have to register themselves in any counseling process.
Actually there are 3 counseling processes in JEE-Mains:
- JoSAA: JoSAA is the combined counseling for JEE Main and JEE Advanced qualified candidates.
- CSAB NEUT: The Central Seat Allocation Board - CSAB NEUT is conducted for seats in the North East and Union Territories.
- CSAB SFTI: The Central Seat Allocation Board - CSAB SFTI is a separate counseling procedure conducted by Central Seat Allocation Board for 18 SFTIs Self Financing Technical Institutes.
JoSAA is an authority setup by govt. JoSAA for admission counseling so that they are allowed to choose their college/insttitute stream based on their rank.
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has been set up by government. After the JEE exams, JoSAA manages and regulates the joint seat allocation for admissions to 114 institutes for the academic year 2021-22. This includes 23 IITs, 31 NITs, IIEST, 26 IIITs and 33 Other-GFTIs. Admission to all the academic programs offered by these Institutes will be made through a single platform.
