The popular perception is that Hindi is the National language. But you know, hindi is not a national language of India. We Indians do not have a National language.

Hindi is one of our official languages. People think it is a National language because right from schools, Hindi is given more importance. That is why we start to discriminate between those who do not know hindi. For instance, people from South and the North-east keep getting discriminated because they do not know hindi.

The several attempts had been made in India to select one language as a common one to unite the people. This created issue as several politicians from the North viewed English as a foreign language and wanted it to replace Hindi. Whereas, Politicians from the south preferred English as a medium for communication and wanted it to be retained.

According to Article 343 of the constitution and a later amendment, Hindi is recognised as an official language along with English. India does not have a national language.

The national language of India, according to the government, is Hindi. Governmental organisations have proclaimed Hindi to be the national tongue on numerous occasions. In his statement at a public gathering in 2017, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu mentioned Hindi as the countries official language. The national language and official language still cause confusion among people. The national language serves as a symbol of the history and culture of the nation, demonstrating that the majority of the populace is familiar with and fluent in that language. The state and federal governments utilise an official language for official transactions. There can be multiple official languages in a nation, but there can only be one national language.
