When is Janamashtmi celebrated in India ?
The birthday of Lord Krishna, also known as Janmashtami or Krishna Janmashtami, is observed throughout India during the monsoon season with great passion and enthusiasm. This significant day falls on Ashtami, the eighth day of Krishna Paksh, the dark fortnight of the Bhadon month, according to the Hindu calendar.
Why we celebrate Janamashtmi ?
The eighth manifestation of Lord Vishnu is Lord Krishna. Vasudeva and Devaki were biological parents of Lord Krishna when he was born in a cellular prison during the Dwapar Yug. But in order to protect his child from Kansa's malicious hands, Vasudeva had to cross the Yamuna River during a violent storm. Therefore, in a strict sense, Maiya Yashodha and Nanda of Gokul district served as Lord Krishna foster parents. From the Mahabharata, we all know that Lord Krishna accidentally killed his maternal uncle, the demon Kansa, when he was born.
As a wonder child, Lord Krishna was recognised for his abilities even as a young child. People began to think that this little kid named Krishna was one of the commoners who could rescue them from any perilous circumstances. People in Nandgaon gradually began to celebrate birth of Krishna in a big manner since they thought it was a lucky day. Since then, the entire nation has celebrated the birth of Lord Krishna since he is the personification of friendship, love, faith, and peace.
