When and Why Independence day is celebrated ?

India celebrates Independence Day on August 15 each year as a national holiday. Independence Day commemorates the establishment of a free and independent India following the end of British rule in 1947. Additionally, it commemorates the anniversary of the division of the subcontinent into India and Pakistan, which took place at the stroke of midnight on August 14–15, 1947. On this day, Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of an independent India, addressed the nation while hoisting the Indian flag above the Lahori Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi, beginning a custom that is still practised today.

Where Independence day is celebrated in India ?

The main staging point for Independence Day celebrations is Delhi, the capital of India, which is home to the Red Fort, a fort built in the 17th century that once served as a political hub.

The festivities begin on the morning of August 15 with the entrance of the Indian prime minister, who is greeted with a standing ovation by the guard of honour, which is made up of members of the Delhi police and the three wings of the Indian armed forces .

List of events performed :

The prime minister hoists the country flag before a poignant performance of "Jana Gana Mana," India national hymn, and 21 honorary gunshots that signal the start of the main event. The prime minister addresses the nation, recalls the occasions leading up to India independence, and closes the speech with a reflection on the future of the nation to remind his or her people of the country struggle for freedom.

Later in the day, festivities include schoolchildren performing, a march-past led by the Indian armed forces, and patriotic parades and pageants honouring the independence fighters.

All around the nation, such occasions are held. The national anthem is sung while the flag is raised by the chief minister of each state capital. Schools, colleges, housing societies, government and non-government organisations, and flag-hoisting ceremonies are all part of cultural events that celebrate the variety of India. All day long, patriotic music is blasted over the loudspeakers.
