Humans are emotional beings. That being said, emotions matter a lot to us which means we crave for love, friendship, and genuine connections. And it hurts especially when we do not get what we want.

Reciprocity is extremely important in relationships.

What can one do when you feel so much connected to someone who does not feel the same way? You can not complain , you can not expect them to love you, you do not know what to do with your emotions that are all over the place. Everything becomes so hard.

We all have been there at some point in life. Here are few ways that worked out the best for me to get through this tough phase, hope they will help you too.

1. Tell them how you feel, yes it is very hard, even scary but regret always hurts. Expressing how you feel will not only relieve you when all these heavy emotions are weighing you down, but it also makes it easy to address the situation as now you clearly know how the other person feels. It also enables the other person to understand why you act like you do that they might be unaware of . For example you might be trying to maintain distance from them, this may appear to them as you do not like them or you are being rude but that is not the truth.

2. Accept it for what it is. Do not romanticize it. It is okay to have feelings for someone , your emotions are valid . But if you keep on ignoring the truth and think that they will love you back someday, you will not be able to move on. Stop hurting yourself even more.

3. Meet new people , do amazing things, go out more, practice gratitude. It may seem like that is just distracting yourself, running from your emotions but trust me it really helps. When you spend time with other people, you find a sense of being connected to others, to look at things from a different perspective. And you realize that being too much in your head is just not working. So buck up, I know it is hard but it is what you need right now. Yes , Me time is necessary to process all this but often we fall into the trap of overthinking so it is rely important to focus on other beautiful things so that life can move forward.

4. Try to understand yourself better. Maybe not getting the love back is just a trigger and there is an old wound that is at play here. Maybe you struggle with self love and acceptance so this unrequited love is just a catalyst for the pain to emerge. Spend time with yourself. You need to really understand yourself better and be honest with yourself so that you can heal.

5. Respect their decision. Yes, it feels bad when you are in a situation like this but one should understand that the other person also has their reasons and you should respect their decision. Let go of feelings of anger and resentment and understand that it is not their fault and just think if you were in their place , how would you have felt.

6. Cut off from them completely Since now you have communicated with them how you feel, so they might understand your situation. But it is really important for you to heal and for that you need to give yourself time and space.

7. Spend time with loved ones and talk to them about this. We all need support when life is getting too much. Allow yourself to grieve and know that you are not alone in this.

I am here rooting for you. I know that you will come out stronger. You got this!
