Location - Kutch, Gujarat
Mundra, India largest private port, serves as a key centre for bulk and containerized freight. It started operating in 2001 and is managed by Adani Ports and SEZ Limited (APSEZ). It has excellent connections to India main centres. The Mundra Port Coal Terminal (MPCT), the biggest coal import facility in the world, has an annual processing capacity of more than 40 million tonnes of coal.
2. Port Of Mumbai
Location - Mumbai, Maharashtra
Mumbai harbour, formerly known as the former Bombay Port Trust (BPT), is a significant port in India. It is a 400 sq km natural deep-water seaport that is run by the MbPT. The British opened it in the late 17th century, and it is located on the Arabian Sea. When compared to the Nhava Sheva port, MbPT mostly handles bulk and general goods.
3. Port of Kolkata
Location - West Bengal, Kolkata
The oldest operating port is Kolkata Port, which is 200 kilometres inland and one of India biggest riverine ports. On the Hooghly River, it is a single, homogeneous freshwater port. It has been in operation since the first half of the sixteenth century and is the destination of a sizable proportion of exports to the North Eastern states. A significant export from this port is jute in addition to copper, textiles, iron ores, and liquid chemicals.
4. Port of Cochin
Location - Kochi, Kerala
The port of Kochi, which is on the shore of the Arabian Sea, receives trade from ships travelling through the Indian Ocean. Willingdon and Vallarpadam, 2 neighbouring islands, are covered by the port itself. The port is close to major marine facilities in Kochi, including the offshore crude carrier mooring facility, the Kochi Marina, the Cochin shipyards, and Kochi Refineries SPM.
5. Port Of Chennai
Location - Chennai, Tamil Nadu
The largest port on the Bay of Bengal coastline is the former Madras Port. The third-oldest port in India is at Chennai. The port, dubbed as the "Gateway of South India," has been in operation since 1881 and has fueled regional trade and business. It is connected directly to more than 50 ports, and is ranked 86th in the world for TEU handling. It is run by the Chennai Port Trust.
