Why do we celebrate World Environment Day ?
Its clear from the name, it is celebrated to save and protect the environment. The no. of people die due to Pollution. Its estimated that nearby 1.2 million people end their lives because of Air Pollution. According to WHO, out of 20, the top 15 polluted cities are in India. Deforestation, Climate change, water pollution all are the root causes of bad Environment.

Why it is celebrated on 5th June ?
It was celebrated in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden in the beginning. Here, environment campaign was held for the first time in 1972 in which 119 countries had participated. In the campaign, it was decided to make the people aware of the pollution on 5th June. And that's how we start to celebrate it on 5th June every year.
