What is leukonychia ?
On the nail, white spots can occasionally be seen. Leukonychia is the condition that results from this.
Total leukonychia : It is a condition in which the entire nail plate is completely white.
Punctate leukonychia : Small white spots are the symptoms of this.
longitudinale Leukonychia : It appears as a white band running the length of the nail.
Striate or transverse leukonychia : It is characterised by one or more horizontal lines that run parallel to the lunula across the nail. Mees lines is another name for them.
CAUSES of white spots on nails :
- nail biting
- manicures
- regular nail injuries
- inadequately fitting shoes that put inappropriate pressure on the nails
- Metal poisoning from heavy metals like lead and arsenic anaemia, which is a shortage of iron in the body
- renal illness
- heart disease
- diabetes
- difficulties with protein digesting
- the intestines losing too many proteins
- zinc shortage
- Hyperthyroidism, which causes the levels of the thyroid hormone to fluctuate due to an overactive thyroid,
- psoriasis
- eczema
PREVENTION of white spots :
There are methods for stopping the recurrence of white spots.
- preventing contact with irritants
- decreasing stress level
- avoiding using nail polish excessively
- shortening nails
- after washing, preventing the nails from drying out by applying moisturiser
- avoiding manicures
- stop nail biting
