In order to defend against a variety of incoming short-range threats, the Iron Dome was specifically created. The origins of sysytem can be traced back to Israel 2006 conflict with Lebanonterrorist Hezbollah movement, during which thousands of rockets were fired into Israel, resulting in extensive damage, widespread evacuations, and dozens of fatalities.
An air defence system called Iron Dome is made to stop rockets and artillery projectiles that can travel up to 44 miles. The Iron Dome is a battery, radar, and command and control system that was created by Elta Systems and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. There are three launchers per battery, for a total of three batteries with three launchers each carrying 20 interceptor missiles. After the first few days of Hamas assaults, Iron Dome has destroyed 85–90% of incoming missiles that were intended to land in populous areas.
Drawbacks :
Despite having high interception rates, the Iron Dome system is cost inefficient in comparison to the threat. Of course, it is difficult to quantify the psychological advantages of your populace knowing that there is an illusive shield that may shield you from rocket or artillery attack pretty well. Additionally, preventing bombs from interfering with daily life has an unknown financial value.
