Gender Stereotypes :
Gender stereotyping refers to the expectations placed on men and women regarding how they should behave, speak, dress, and carry themselves. The capacity of both men and women to pursue professional professions and prohibit them from making personal decisions about their life can be limited by these stereotyped gender norms.
Society might lose a natural ability for physics if girls are expected to stay at home and take care of their families. Some schools may lose a highly skilled kindergarten teacher if a boy is only regarded for his potential to be a great firefighter.
Examples :
- Boys should play with vehicles, while girls should play with dolls.
- Girls should conduct themselves; guys are expected to act like boys
- girls are less interested in STEM courses than boys
- Men are born leaders, whereas women are natural nurturers.
- Women do not paid equal to the men.
- Lesbians are women who reject male advances or appear less feminine.
- Women who have kids are less committed to their work.
How to stop Gender Stereotypes ?
1. Boys should be made aware of their obligation to combat gender prejudice and stereotypes. Reiterate that speaking up when others denigrate girls is also part of being an ally to girls and women. Show them how much you value and support the ladies in your life.
2. Women can promote awareness in settings where men predominate. In order to advance gender equality and combat gender stereotypes, role models are essential . Even advertising are entering this market and beginning to specifically target women.
3. For instance, when we make remarks about how strong boys are or how attractive girls are, we are conveying our expectations for children depending on their gender. When referring to individuals in the general sense, use gender-neutral pronouns like "they" or "she or he."
