What happens if someone drinks dettol by mistake?

I used to wash my hands with Dettol. Today, when I was washing my hands, a question comes into my mind what if anyone drink Dettol. Do you know ?

We use chemicals in our day to day life. You may dettol is an antiseptic which is used to treat the wounds. The dettol antiseptic liquid wad launched in India in 1933.

First, we will discuss the chemicals present in dettol. It contains the Inactive chemicals such as caramel, isopropyl alcohol, white pine oil, water which are not dangerous for us. But, if the amount of alcohol present is large or you have any allergy, then it can be harmful.

It also contains the active chemicals such as chloroxylenol and it is highly toxic to fish, cats and some amphibians. What if you consume this chemical ? Chloroxylenol can cause Drowsiness and even Coma. These can also damage the mucus membrane present in Gastrointestinal tract.

If you consumed dettol in large amount, then it can lead to Nephotoxicity and Hepatotoxicity i.e, kidney and lever will get affected. Use this chemical for the antiseptic purposes only and keep it away from the reach of children.
