I just know that atmosphere is composed by five different layers. what are the names of these layers ?
An atmosphere is the layer of gases surrounding a planet or other celestial body.
There are five layers of atmosphere :
1. TROPOSPHERE -
- All weather phenomenon happens here
- Clouds are formed in this layer
- It is extended up to 0-8 km from poles and about 18Km up to equator
- The dust particles mostly reside in troposphere
- The point where it ends is called "Tropopause"
2. STRATOSPHERE -
- The dust particles that are formed in the troposphere absorb the heat
- It extends from 20 - 50 km i.e., its width is 30 km
- Ozone layer which protects us from UV rays is present in Stratosphere
- Airplane flies here because drag force is less here
3. MESOSPHERE -
- It extends from 50 - 80 km i.e., its width is also 30 km
- It lies above the stratosphere
- Meteoroids burn up in this layer on entering from the space
4. IONOSPHERE -
- It is also known as Thermosphere
- It extends from 80 km height
- It reflects radio waves back to earth due to presence of ions
- It protects earth from meteoroids'
- It absorbs the x-rays and gamma rays emitted from sun
5. EXOSPHERE -
- The part where you find the air particles is exosphere
- This layer has very thin air
- light gases like helium and hydrogen float into the space from here.
