Junction box is fitted on the side of the railway track with its one wire connected on the track. It is usually placed at the distances of 5 km difference i.e if one box is at the 5 km distance then the next will be at 10 km.
Use of Junction Box -
It is used to count the number of axles on a train. The main reason to count the axles is to know either the complete boxes of train are passed through the railway track or not.
Passengers usually sit on the COUCH. The one box of a train contains two bogies. The bogie is a system connecting tyres to each other with the use of axle. One axle connect two tyres with each other and there are total 4 axles on one box of a train.
If it is a 10 bogie train, then it will have 40 axles in total. So, the junction box made of aluminum will count the no. Of axles on a train.
If the total axles are not passed then the junction boz will pass out the signal to the next railway station and it is declared emergency. The whole team will get engaged in the search of remaining train boxes.
