Before moving towards the difference, first understand what is mass and weight.
MASS;
The amount of the matter contained in a body is called Mass. When you weigh yourself on a weighing machine, let 60 displays over there. And then you say you have 60 Kg weight. Actually, the value displayed is not your weight, it is a mass.
WEIGHT;
Weight of a body is defined as the gravitational pull of the earth on it. The formula of weight is given by;
w = mg, where m is mass and g is gravity
Difference between mass and weight ;
1. Mass is a measure of inertia whereas weight is a measure of gravity.
2. Mass is scalar quantity. Weight gives direction also, so it is vector quantity.
3. Mass of a body cannot be zero but weight can be zero.
4. Mass remain constant everywhere. Weight may vary from place to place.
5. The unit of mass is Kg in SI system and Newton is the unit of weight in SI system.
Important Point : Mass is not affected by the presence of other body. However, its opposite in the case of weight.
