What is Element ?
- It is the fundamental building block of matter, which cannot be converted into other substances in any way but can be combined to create new ones.
- It is a Pure substance
- Metals, non-metals, metalloids, and noble gases are the different categories.
Examples : Hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen
What are Compounds ?
- It consists of two or more components together.
- It is a Pure substance.
- They are capable of being converted into metals through chemical processes.
Example: Carbon dioxide and water
Difference between Elements and Compounds :
1. Elements are substances with a single atom at their core and are pure in nature. In addition to being pure substances, compounds are also made up of components in predetermined ratios.
2. There have been 118 elements discovered so far, 94 of which are found naturally on Earth. There are an infinite amount of possible compounds. There is not an exact amount.
3. Metals, metalloids, and nonmetals are three categories for elements whereas Three sorts of compounds exist: metallic, ionic, and molecular.
4. Atoms alone constitute elements. Therefore, they cannot be disassembled. Chemical reactions can be used to break down compounds.
5. Elements are portrayed by means of symbols and numbers. Chemical formulas are used to depict Compounds .
6. Hydrogen, oxygen, copper, boron are examples of Mixtures and Water, ammonia, and sodium chloride are three examples of Compounds
