The purity or weight of gold is measured in karats. Great Karat gold denotes high purity of the metal. Many diverse gold-based products, including bars, coins, jewellery, and so forth, are made using differing grades of gold.

Different karats of gold :

1. 14K Gold -

It is made up of 41.7% other metals and 58.3% gold. 14K gold is more inexpensive and durable than 18K gold. Compared to 18 and 22K gold, 14K gold jewellery is more resistant to wear and tear, making it perfect for daily wear.

2. 18K Gold -

There are 18 parts gold and 6 parts other metals in it. In terms of percentage, 18K gold is 75% gold and the remaining 25% is made up of other metals like zinc, copper, nickel, etc. Compared to 24K and 22K gold, which are too soft for jewellers, 18K gold is stronger and more durable due to the additional metals.

3. 22K Gold -

It is a mixture of 22 parts gold and 2 parts other metals, such as copper and zinc. It is tougher than 24K pure gold because of the presence of other metal traces in the composition, making it suitable for use in jewellery making. Because it contains 91.67% pure gold, gold of this karat is also referred to as "916 gold."

4. 24K Gold -

Due to its 99.9% purity and lack of any other metal traces, 24K gold is also known as pure gold. One should be aware that 24K gold is the highest form of the metal. When it comes to the price of 24 karat gold in India, it changes daily. However, because to its purity, this type of gold is more expensive than 22K or 18K naturally. However, it is better suited for investments than for conventional jewellery because it is too delicate for that use.
