There are some people who want to get rid of alcohol addiction but are unable to do so either because of medical problems or because of their addiction. So here i will tell you about Alcohol De-addiction in properly medical way.
So basically, there are three methods for that.
1. Replacement method
2. By decreasing craving of alcohol
3. Aversion Therapy
I will now explain each of these method.
Replacement method
In this method, we replace the alcohol which is a brain depressant with a drug which is long acting brain depressant but not addictive, gradually we will decrease the dose and eventually we will stop the dose.
By Decreasing craving of alcohol
In this method, we will use drugs which will decrease cravings for alcohol for example, Naltrexone, Topiramate.
Aversion Therapy
This method does not decrease cravings. In this method, we give person ethanol which gives same happiness as alcohol but also produce various other bad effects like nausea, vomiting, headache, etc. So the next time, person will be afraid of taking the alcohol.
Now, there are two types of dependence body shows on alcohol : physical and psychological dependence.
In psychological dependence, person has cravings and feeling that if he does not get the alcohol, he will not survive but if the person stops taking alcohol, there are no physical symptoms.
In physical dependence, when the person stops alcohol, he develops withdrawal symptom.
